How can I become a patron (library user)?

Anyone can become a patron of Academic Library after completing application from, submit identity card and 150 CZK payment for membership card. Fees for additional years are 50 CZK per year.

How to find a particular book?

Search for a call-number in library catalogue on PC’s in both floors. Call-number is a 9-digit sign. First 5 numbers determine the field (see map) and last 4 numbers indicate the order of inclusion in the field.

Can I find a belles lettres in the library?

You can find it on the 1st floor of the library. Books are sorted alphabetically by authors' last names. Fiction is ranked in the Austrian Library (2nd floor AK JU) too.

Where can I find theses?

Theses of years 1995-2007 are located 2nd floor of the library. Newer theses (2008- ) are available in PDF format on the Internet (STAG). The others are stored in the depository. All theses are for reference only.

How can I study the journals?

Journals are placed in the journals study rooms on both floors, for students are available for reference only. Employees of University and Biology centre of CAS can borrow journals for 3 days. Older issues should be requested on loan from the storage / depository.

Can I renew loans alone?

You can renew loans online, if the book isn’t reserved by other patron. Due date of loan mustn’t be exceeded.
Enter library catalogue, click "Sig-in" and enter your login and password (the same as STAG, more info). For assistance contact: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
Click "My Library Card". By clicking at the number in the "Loans" row you'll find the list of your loans in each of the library you use, and their due dates. It's possible to renew your loans as well. REMEMBER: You can renew your books 3 times and you can renew your books only before due date. If the document is reserved, it cannot be renewed.

Can I reserve books?

You can reserve a document via online catalogue only if you are registered user of the Academic Library and all issues of the title (except of the in-house loans) are borrowed (not available). Reservation procedure: At the selected book record click on HOLDINGS link. Here you can see an amount of document items in particular library and how many items from are borrowed (f.e. "2/1": means: from 2 items is one borrowed). On the left, click on the link "request" to make a hold for an item. Sign-in and in the following window you can adjust a date till when you want to wait for the document to be returned. Then click OK.

I forgot my password

Students and employees of university log in by using the same login and password as in STAG. If you forgot the password, contact the administrator: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Can I pay for copying or printing with the money paid at the refectory?

No, payment of print services and payment of meals is separate. You can recharge the card for copying and printing on the Ground floor of the Library. Alternatively, you can use a coin operated photocopier on first floor. Scanning is free of charge.

What is meant by coloured stickers on the spines of some books?

Such books are for reference only. You can find red marked books on first floor and green marked books on second floor.

Can a student or teacher place a request for a new book acquisition?

Yes, all requests for new books submitted in personal or sent via e-mail will be assessed by acquisition committee of AL USB.

Can I use my own laptop and Wi Fi connection in the library?

Yes, there is a Wi-Fi connection available in the library. You can use your own laptop. Use silent mode in quiet study rooms. Use of mobile phones are banned in quiet study rooms.
